Ella Liebermann-Shiber was born 1923 in Berlin. Growing up in a Jewish family, she was initially expelled in 1938 as part of the so-called ‘Polenaktion’, moved to the ghetto and shortly afterwards deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. She survived due to her talent for drawing. After her liberation, she captured her experiences of the Holocaust in her drawings.
Our film tells her story.
Our film tells her story.
We deliberately chose a simplistic illustration style that creates a unique graphic world imitating Ella's drawings.
In an interactive travelling exhibition - to be seen for example at Stuttgart's "Neues Schloss" - the two now come together: 19 expressive pencil drawings by Ella and our introductory film. Further information on the exhibition can be found on the Zedakah e.V. project page.
